hi-
apologies in advance, i'm a bit new to podcasts (yes, i'm a bit behind some things... :-) ). i've been getting into podcasts recently and since i already have a nextcloud instance running figured I'd add the podcast app there. i'm using antennapod btw. in the nextcloud store, i see 3 different pod cast apps. Podcast, RePod, and NextPod. I see the Podcast app hasn't been updated in a long while so that's out. But i see RePod and NextPod both have active releases. Looking at both apps, I'm not sure I see significant differences (but maybe i'm just not seeing whats under the hood). no offense meant, just curious of what the differences are. thanks in advance

Hello.

It's nice you have reaching me here !
Here is the differences between the three apps.

Podcasts

This apps indeed is unmaintained anymore but it kind of work as intended.
It let you add your podcasts and listen to them ...
But lacks the synchronisation mechanism with AntennaPod ou gpodder clients and does not record any of your listening.

NextPod

It's a frontend to see what you have synchronised with AntennaPod through the gpodder-sync addon.
It have also the ability to listen to some episodes and podcasts, but with a lot of limitations :

  • You have to sync with another client to get new episodes
  • You can't add a new subscriptions
  • You can only read podcasts that have already being sync by an another client.

RePod

It's a full app witch have all the functionalities of a regular podcast client with the compatibility with gpodder sync (and thus AntennaPod).
It's the better of both world between the two previous apps.

In fact, I started to develop RePod because I wanted to go beyond that NextPod and Podcasts offers, a full app that can be used like a regular podcast client with the synchronisation with AntennaPod and similar gpodder clients.

Obviously, I'm biased because it's my app, but my goal is to provide a full experience, whereas the two other focus in one specific aspect.

I hope it have answer your questions.
Have a nice day :)

Hey, just found this comparison of yours here. Maybe you should add it to the readme?

@peachy Thank you for your report.

Sometimes, the most basic things is forgotten and this is indeed a good idea.

I made a quick chart in the README : https://git.crystalyx.net/Xefir/repod#comparaison-with-similar-apps-for-nextcloud

I have to test again the other apps to be sure, but this can give you an idea of what my app does compared with the others.
